    Joan Salter, born on February 15, 1940 in Brussels, Belgium, discusses her family; living in Paris, France; her father leaving Paris for Vichy France; her mother, sister, and herself staying in a hotel in Paris; fleeing Paris in a laundry van for Vichy in the fall of 1941; her father fleeing to Spain in the fall of 1942; her father going to Portugal then Scotland; her mother, sister, and herself being picked up by the Spanish border police; being taken into Spain; receiving help from the Joint; shipping out from Lisbon, Portugal with her sister on June 5, 1943; arriving in the United States on June 22, 1942; living with a foster family in Philadelphia with her sister; her sister being removed from that family; and reuniting with her parents in London, England.
