    Interview Summary
    Lazar Schachter, born on November 6, 1908 in Wolowe, Czechoslovakia (present-day Ukraine), discusses the Hungarians occupation of Wolowe in 1938; internment in a series of work camps; going to the Russian front to dig ditches in 1941; imprisonment by the Soviets; his hospitalization with typhus; working as translator until 1944; going to a Siberian camp; enlisting in the Czech army; being wounded and hospitalized; going to Prague postwar; and immigrating to the United States in 1950.
