    Esther Smith (née Kahan), born on September 15, 1928 in Romania, discusses her hometown under Hungarian control from 1940 to 1944; harsh treatment; living in a ghetto nearby for one month; deportation to Auschwitz in May 1944; being sent to Torgau munitions factory near Leipzig in October 1944; fearing rape by the Soviets postwar; living in Leipheim displaced persons camp from 1945 to 1949; living in Lechfeld from 1948 to 1949; and immigrating to the United States on July 8, 1949.
