    Interview Summary
    Meyer J. Strassfeld, born on November 17, 1920 in Stanis?awów, Poland, discusses relations between Jews and non-Jews in prewar Poland and Germany; his Hasidic family; his grandfather and father being rabbis; his grandfather being shot after spitting in the face of a member of the SS; immigrating to the United States with his parents and two brothers via a small congregation in Hazleton, Pennsylvania that sent a contract for his father; arriving in the United States on July 4, 1935; attending a Brooklyn yeshivah from 1936 to 1945; translating smuggled letters about the murder of Jews during the war; sending the information to Franklin D. Roosevelt, but not receiving a repsonse; and the inactivity of the United States in response to genocide.
