Bohumil Vrátil, born in 1926 in Trest in Czechoslovakia, describes his family and the prewar Jewish community of Trest; attending a gymnasium in Telc and witnessing German forces entering the town; the closing of high schools in 1940; restrictions placed upon the Jewish community during the war; the arrest of Czech priests, teachers, and those accused of communism; the imprisonment of Jews from the surrounding towns in a house; the deportation of local Jews to Terezin; and the return of one Jewish man after the war.
